The goal of the LEAF Network is to connect people with the benefits of edible trees, and to connect edible trees with the stewardship of people.

LEARN Values, Benefits and Characteristics of Edible Trees

In this section, you will start your path to growing edible trees by learning Five Core Values to help guide you as you select, plant, tend and harvest productive trees. Learn the many benefits of trees and design your site to provide some or all of these. Based on where you live, learn which edible trees can grow and see pictures of the fruits, nuts, pods and seeds they produce. Learn the characteristics of trees, including their need for water and periods of cold (known as “chill requirements”). Be aware of how long trees live, how large they grow and how they are pollinated. Finally, learn about how Arizona’s climate might change, and how to plan for this in site design.
